[226c]You can start Concurrence by double-clicking its icon, or the icon of a its documents. As you prefer, you can start off with a clean slate, ready to create new documents, or you can resume the work left off when you last quit.
[264c]The first time you run it, Concurrence presents you with a fresh, unformatted outline window. However, you can easily customize it to start you off with an outline or slide view, formatted however you prefer. Or you can resume the work left off when you last quit.
[125c]This chapter presupposes you've taken care of installing and registering Concurrence, as described in the Installation Guide.
[55c]Find and double-click the Concurrence application icon.

[268c]A smaller, two-paned view browser, named UNTITLED-1
Views. The top pane of this window is gray, with a highlighted line showing the name of the other window. The bottom pane is white. The window also features three buttons, New Outline View, New Slide View, and Open.
[54c]The first time you start this way, two windows appear:
[195c]You will see this arrangement any time you start Concurrence by double-clicking its application icon, unless you work with the New Documents preferences or the Remember Open Documents preference.
[20c]Starting the Program
[391c]There are a few ways to change how Concurrence creates new documents. With the New Documents preferences, described in Chapter 14, Info, you can specify whether documents begin life with an outline view, a slide view, or as a copy of the existing document of your choice. (Don't worry if terms like outline view and slide view are unfamiliar. They are explained in the chapters that follow.)
[355c]The New From Template, discussed in Chapter 15, Document, also gives you additional flexibility in creating new documents. When you choose this command, Concurrence prompts for an existing document to copy. For example, use this command when you have a slide view whose master slides you want to reuse, or a "To Do" outline whose format you want to reuse.
[281c]Several sample files are included with Concurrence, and a number of these make good templates. To see them, choose Samples from the Info menu. This will open a window in the Workspace Manager. Pick a document whose name interests you and choose Open from the Workspace's File menu.
[25c]Customizing New Documents
[467c]Many times, you may find yourself working with the same document over a number of sessions. You can set Concurrence to remember which files have been open by selecting the Remember Open Documents preference, described in Chapter 14, Info. This makes Concurrence remember which documents you had open when you quit, and open them again when you next launch the program. This is especially helpful if you have Concurrence set to autolaunch on your Dock when you log in.
